As I entered the tree line, a bobcat ran across the road in front of the car, left to right, and disappeared into the underbrush: an energetic reminder for me to slow life’s hectic pace and exist in the moment. Idyllwild, “The Sacred Mountain,” was already beckoning me to leave my cares on the side of the road and slide into its nurturing embrace. Patricia Garza Pinto – a shaman and a healer – helped make my time here a sanctuary of healing and connectedness… I learned deep truths that left me hungry for more. A bobcat again ran across my path on the way down the mountain, right to left, synchronistically sealing our time together.

What is the most important thing that you want people to know about you and what you do? I work with women who suffer with chronic emotional and physical pain to create a strong and healthy mind, body and spirit. I am able to connect deeply without judgement because I have been there myself – I have transformed my life from “mess to success!” Pregnant at 19, I sold hard drugs and abused alcohol. I was attacked and robbed at gunpoint. Forced to strip naked, I was terrified that the gunmen would rape me and kill my unborn child. In my early twenties, I worked as a prostitute, numbing my pain and seeking to escape my reality through a variety of substances.
I am able to connect deeply without judgement because I have been there myself
And then, in the depth of that darkness, after a night spent high on cocaine, I experienced my first spiritual awakening. My heart cracked open with deep sorrow and pain. I cried out to Great Spirit and asked for help in turning my life around. I want you to know that my prayer was answered, and yours can be too.
With Great Spirit by my side, I have become a CHEK Holistic Health and Wellness Practitioner and Coach. As Founder of Divine Your Power Health & Wellness for the 21st Century, I offer a personalized women’s empowerment health, wellness and spirituality training and coaching program. I host Divine Mountain Retreat programs: private, semi-private, and small group retreats for women. Although, my intention is to inspire my sisters, I also work with men. My Eagle’s View Healing Sanctuary in Idyllwild, is a sacred getaway for those who desire healing, peace, connection to nature, and unconditional love.
Idyllwild is a small mountain town around two and a half hours from Los Angeles and San Diego counties. This is not your typical mountain town: this is a sacred mountain and there is a very beautiful, powerful spirit here in the land, in the trees, in the sky, in the creeks and streams. The Native Americans, the Cahuilla people, held many sacred ceremonies on this mountain. Very powerful sacred ceremonies are still held here, including private healing ceremonies, drum circles, sound healing sessions, water purification ceremonies, and land blessings honoring and gifting the land and Mother Earth. With the right intention and an open heart, major shifts of healing occur on the mountain of Idyllwild.

What exactly do you offer during a retreat? A customized experience based on the healing you need. I work with you one-on-one with breathwork and body work to strengthen you and make you whole again. I shop with you and cook with you – all according to your body type. I also make sure you have your space and privacy when you want it. For a minimum of three days and nights and as many as five days and nights you’ll have access to a lovely, private 330 sq. ft. apartment with its own entrance, a small kitchen, bathroom, and a beautiful view. Having a private apartment allows you the sacred space to disconnect from the world you came from, rest and rejuvenate. Much of our work is done in my own kitchen, living room, and out on the deck with a sweeping view of the valley below.
My retreat experiences are completely tailored to the individual or group. Groups are wonderful, but individual retreats are optimal – how often do you get a nurturing and rejuvenating experience totally focused on you? They actually begin before you arrive: I send an evaluation to be completed by you at home which is extensive and gives me important insight into your past experiences, current challenges and needs. I then know how to craft our time together, including an optimal recipe plan based on your ancestry. More importantly, I begin to connect with your energy.
Your retreat will include some or all of the following: energy medicine, healing sessions, John of God Crystal Bed therapy sessions, drum sessions, Himalayan bowl sound healing, crystal quartz harp healing, land blessings… We will utilize my on-site state of the art fitness studio to create a tailored stretching and strengthening program that can be implemented daily. We explore breathing techniques that bring the life force energy into the body.
Because I believe that food is medicine, you’ll be nourished with customized meals we’ll create in the kitchen together. Sometimes we might also dine at the wonderful high vibration restaurants and cafes in Idyllwild Village. This experience is an investment in yourself, one of the most important you will ever make. Beyond the intense healing, my clients go home nourished, uplifted, and peaceful – with real tools to fuel continued growth.
I also offer small group Divine Mountain Group Retreats. If you have a group of family members that want to come up together for a group healing experience, or to share the cost of the retreat. I prefer working with small groups instead of large ones, as they allow for a deeper connection with me and my attendees.
Is there a common thread among the people that come to you? Typical areas of concern or focus? Yes, emotional pain. Often times, they are unaware of the stuck emotional energy, only that their life is not working the way they want it to. Without the ability to release it on their own, they resort to hiding their pain. Disguising pain takes a massive amount of creative energy. After a while the mask we wear becomes heavy! Some of my clients suffer from anxiety, depression, insomnia, doubt, fear, insecurity and loneliness. They feel stuck and want to become healthier, physically and emotionally.
I feel trauma settles deep within our bodies, at a cellular level, and holds us back from authentic joy, creativity, manifestation, and love. I know how to work with it for release and rejuvenation.
Can you speak more to why you chose this place and how it works with your business? This place, this sacred and powerful mountain, chose me. Great Spirit called me up here to work with my shadow parts and heal myself. To better serve my clients, I had to face childhood trauma and do my own deep healing inner work. I can only take my clients as far as I have taken myself. I’ve taken myself pretty damn deep, to the depths of hell and back. Going to metaphorical hell was part of my path and journey. I had to build my energies and capacity in order to guide others through their version of the metaphorical fire, brimstone and sharp pitchforks…hell.
As I stated earlier, this is a powerfully healing and magical mountain. A great place do healing work. A great place for my Eagle’s View Healing Sanctuary. Alas, the mountain will also test you. Never underestimate the power of this sacred mountain!
A moment ago you mentioned a diet based on the client’s ancestors. What is that and how do you find out what that diet is? We should all be eating based on the diet of our ancestors – a “Primal Pattern Diet.” I like to get real with food. I’m not talking about some cookie cutter diet designed for the general masses. As we know, there are many different body types, but in addition, there are different genetics, made up of specific DNA structures. Think for a moment about how long your ancestors lived in their part of the world, eating their native diet, before they came here – tens of thousands of years? The amount of time we have been eating our modern diet is a blip on the human timeline – and our bodies haven’t had the time to adapt. Eating a Primal Pattern Diet will allow each of us to live and function optimally. Sure, a cookie cutter diet may cause weight loss, but it will not be optimal for your specific body long-term.
I send my clients very detailed questionnaires, designed carefully to assist in discovering the type of diet that is optimal. Based on their answers, I know what “type” they are genetically: protein, carb or mixed. Then, we discuss diet protocols, foods and meal preparation to guide lifestyle choices for optimal nourishment. The questionnaire was developed by my beloved friend and teacher, Holistic Health Practitioner, Paul Chek of the world renown CHEK Institute, and William Wolcott, author of The Metabolic Typing Diet.
How often do you get a nurturing and rejuvenating experience totally focused on you?
The example I love to share is the story of the Vietnamese boat people who came from Vietnam to California. They were very lean and muscular until they immersed themselves in American culture and the typical American junk food diet. Their once slim, strong bodies transformed. Many now struggle with weight and inflammation. In my experience, it’s like a twinkle in the eye is missing, in part, due to eating burgers, fries, pizza, donuts and soda. The same goes for all of us… we need to eat for our body type based on our ancestor’s diet!
Are you vegan? Or do you restrict your diet in any way? Absolutely not. I am a “Patriciatarian” – I eat what my Soul calls for. I used to restrict my diet and considered myself a “purist” with my food. I also had much judgement about others who ate toxic junk food. Then, Spirit touched my heart and asked, “Where is the unconditional love in your judgement of others?” I came to realize we are all on different paths.
Now, once in a while I will have “unhealthy” food, like my favorite ice cream. When I eat animal protein, I make sure the animal came from a small farm or ranch and was ethically and humanely raised and slaughtered. The fish I ingest is ONLY wild caught, never farm-raised. My fruits and veggies are organic and I rarely eat grains or wheat. I realize that these options are not available to all for a variety of reasons, but I encourage everyone to choose their foods with as much consciousness as possible given their circumstances.
Do you have any advice for people living out in the world and what they can do within the context of their lives? For example, can I stand at my trunk with all my groceries inside and bless it all before it goes to my home? Absolutely! In fact, that would be the easiest thing to do for those with busy schedules. For me, ritual is extremely important. It is part of my practice to take extra time and heart felt effort to pray over and bless my food. I actually consider taking extra time for prayer and blessing a joy.
If you, too, crave the experience of release and revival led by a woman standing in her power, allow yourself to vibrate with the truth here, and, perhaps, make your own way to Divine Mountain Immersion Retreat. – GK
